Interviewed on The Andrew Marr Show, 24.05.2020, the chief executive of AstraZeneca says he is concerned that the virus may die out too quickly, before the vaccine has finished being developed. “We have to run as fast as possible before the disease disappears so we can demonstrate that the vaccine is safe and effective.” “…it is a race and as a result I don’t think there will be so many vaccines because when the disease disappears it will be hard to demonstrate efficacy.” So if the disease dies out naturally, why do we even need a vaccine against it? Surely, a disease dying out naturally is a good thing, as nobody can get sick from it again? “We have actually received an order from the British government to supply a hundred million doses of vaccine and those will go to the British people and there’s no doubt that starting in September we will be starting delivering these doses of vaccines to the British government for vaccination.” The population of the UK is 66 million; the British government have ordered 100 million doses, before the testing has even shown that it is effective and safe.
